A Moldy Misadventure
I attacked it like a warrior facing a dragon, and then something incredible happened.
Picture this: It was a cold, rainy Saturday, and I was on a mission that any home-loving enthusiast can relate to - transforming a boring, blank wall into something that packed a punch - hello large artwork! But when I went to my studio - aka my basement - to bring up the perfect painting for the spot, I stopped dead in my tracks.
I was affronted by every homeowner's worst nightmare: MOLD. Say it ain't so!
I immediately felt my body flood with stress and fear and overwhelm. Questions swirled like raindrops in a hurricane - where was the water coming from? Why was there a leak in the first place? How long had it been festering in the ceiling? Why had I not noticed it earlier? How could I have prevented this predicament? What if my ceiling needs to be completely torn out? What’s this going to cost? How on earth do I even deal with this?!
And the questions just kept coming.
My immediate response was to avoid it entirely. Pretend I hadn't unearthed the moldy menace and relegate it to the infamous "later problem" category. So there I stood, fretting and stressed and unable to focus on anything else.
But the responsible adult in me, the one who understands that homeownership is a package deal with responsibilities, whispered a different tune. If I wasn't going to deal with it, who would?
So, armed with a spray bottle of vinegar, I faced the mold head-on. I attacked it like a warrior facing a dragon, and something incredible happened - I immediately felt better.
Action became my shield against stress. Taking charge my weapon against doubt. Wiping away the mold became my superpower against worst-case scenario fears. That first step, however small it seemed, cleared my head and shifted my energy.
You see, when we're confronted with a problem and allow our minds to conjure more problems because we don't have all the answers, we unwittingly paralyze ourselves. But when we look at the problem and find that first step to take, we declare to the world (and ourselves) that we’re independent, capable, and perfectly equipped to handle whatever life throws our way.
So, the lesson in this moldy misadventure? Don't be afraid to confront life's unexpected challenges, because when you do, you'll reveal the strong, capable, and fearless warrior within. You've got this, my friend!
Until the next adventure,
Kate
